Sunday we launched into part 2 of “An Appetite for his Presence”.
The overall theme of this month has been the presence of God.
I have noticed a new hunger that is begging to rise up in high school students at Vintage.
You guy’s are showing up each week eager to experience what God has for you.
God has some incredible things in store for you and I cannot wait to see what he does.

My question for us this week: If we have access to experience “Kavowd” (The tangible weight of Gods presence) right now, why would we want to experience it?
To help us understand why I want to walk through a Poem that a guy named Isaiah writes in chapter 35.
Isiah writes a Poem of what it looks like when God’s presence show’s up.
Isaiah: (Who, What, When, Where, Why)
Isaiah was a prophet in a time where the Assyrian empire was ruling and destroying the world. This is one of the most elite empires the world has seen.
Isaiah is writing a poem in Chapter 35 to a Hebrew audience.
He chooses to use chiastic structure so that people would understand his poem.
This would have been a very familiar structure to his audience. It would have been artistically appreciated and made sense.
Much like reading “once upon a time” as American’s we understand we are about to read a fairytale.
For example, if I were to tell you about the day a girl named Erin met her future husband in a Chiasm, I might write it like this:
A. One day that seemed like any other, Erin woke up and decided she wanted to go to the movies.
B. So Erin got in her car and drove to the movie theatre.
C. While standing in line, Erin met a boy named Travis. She didn’t know it yet, but Travis was the man she was going to marry.
B. Erin drove home from the movie theatre, excited to have met Travis.
A. Erin went to sleep that night, so glad that she decided to go to the movies.
Obviously, the most important part of the story happens in the middle.
Isaiah 35 Poem
Part 1a of the Chiastic Poem (Joy, Life and restoration)
1 The wilderness and dry land will be joyously glad! The desert will blossom like a rose and rejoice! 2 Every dry and barren place will burst forth with abundant blossoms, dancing and spinning with delight! Lebanon’s lush and splendor covers it, the magnificent beauty of Carmel and Sharon. My people will see the awesome glory of Yahweh, the beautiful grandeur of our God.
Isaiah starts off by describing what it looks like when the presence of God shows up. You and I can have an expectation for what will happen when God enters a room.
There will be an increase of Joy and people will rejoice.
Life is restored to things that were dead | the desert will blossom like a rose
When the presence of God enters the room he restores things back to it’s original design and brings life to what was dead! There is always growth and movement in the presence of God.
Part 2a of the Chiastic poem (Everything is made NEW)
3 Strengthen those who are discouraged. Energize those who feel defeated.
4 Say to the anxious and fearful, “Be strong and never afraid. Look, here comes your God! He is breaking through to give you victory! He comes to avenge your enemies. With divine retribution he comes to save you!
When the presence of God enters the room everything flips and is made new.
V3 Strength and security come to those who feel weak and insecure.
V4 Energy and breakthrough comes to people who feel defeated and locked up.
What if I am not experiencing these things when the presence of God is in the room?
Could I suggest that it’s because you haven’t given him permission to fully express who he is to you.
Remember he doesn’t force himself upon people.
Part 3 of the Chiastic poem (Signs, Wonders, Weight, and Glory)
The central core of the Poem
5 Then Blind eyes will open and deaf ears will hear.
6 Then the lame will leap like playful deer and the tongue – tied will sing songs of triumph. Gushing water will spring up in the wilderness and streams will flow through the desert.
Glorious presence | Kavowd It means, awe, wonder, weight or substance.
The tangible expression and weight of His glory is displayed when He enters a room.
Experiencing healing and fullness is God’s core desire when his presence is among us.
Where we have been wounded from past hurt (Physically, mentally, emotionally) it is God’s desire to bring healing, life, and restoration.
Could I submit that the level of access (permission) that you are willing to give the Lord is the level of Kavowd (glorious presence) that you are going to experience.
Part 2b of the Chiastic Poem (everything is made NEW)
7 The burning sand will become a refreshing oasis, the parched ground bubbling springs, and the dragon’s lair a meadow with grass, reeds, and papyrus.
8 There will be a highway of holiness called the sacred Way. The impure will not be permitted on the road, but it will be accessible to God’s people. And not even fools will lose their way.
9 The lion will not be found there; no wild beast will travel on it- they will not be found there. But the redeemed will find a pathway on it.
His presence brings NEW life|The burning sand will become a refreshing oasis
V8 It will be accessible to God’s people. And not even fools will lose their way.
The Hebrew word for highway indicates what our English word literally says: “a high-way.” It speaks of a raised road, lifted above the ground.
You are aloud to NOT be perfect and still be in His presence. There is a covering and a special grace in His presence where even the insecure and broken are welcome.
Part 1b of the Chiastic Poem (Joy, life and restoration)
10 Yahweh’s ransomed ones will return with glee to Zion. They will enter with a song of rejoicing and be crowned with everlasting joy. Ecstatic joy will overwhelm them; weariness and grief will disappear!
A measurable sign of joy will be expressed when the presence of God is in a room.
The presence of God is always around us, but it is our choice weather or not we will give him daily permission to manifest himself.
Could I suggest that when you experience Kavawd, the questions of “Why would I want to experience His presence” is no longer a question. It’s a reality that you are daily walking into.
