29 Apr 2015 Student Leader Camping Trip
Ever since we took the leaders camping last summer, they have not stopped asking if we are going to do it again this year. The answer is, yes!
Where: Creedmore Lakes (North of Red Feather Lakes)
While we had fun at Horsetooth Reservoir last year, the kids have said they would like a more authentic wilderness experience. We have selected a location that allows for lots of day hikes near the three Creedmore Lakes that are nestled in the trees and mountains of the Roosevelt National Forest just north of Red Feather Lakes (about 1.5 hours from Fort Collins).
Camping Trip: June 7th-9th
We will handle transportation for the kids to the camp location. All you need to do is drop off your student and pick up your student at the church.
- Drop Off: June 7th | 2pm | Vintage City Church
- Pick Up: June 9th | 5pm | Vintage City Church
Who: 5th-6th Grades (2014-2015 school year)
This will be the last trip we will do with the 6th graders since they will be graduating into NEXT this summer. Many of the kids have developed close relationships through Student Leadership and we are excited for one last opportunity for them to have some real bonding time together out in the wilderness.
There is nothing quite like secluding yourself in the vast wilderness and being surrounded by mountain vistas and the smell of pine trees mixed with the fresh mountain air! For Brittany and myself, we never feel closer to God than when we spend a few days out in the mountains backpacking and camping.
There will be two main times each day for the kids to spend time with God. First, in the morning the kids will get up early, make breakfast together and then find a quiet place to watch the sun rise and listen to God free from distractions. Then, in the evenings we will gather around the campfire for worship, teaching and reflection.
Be sure to send them with a journal and Bible because they are going to need them!
This will cover the cost of food and gas for the trip.
- Bible, Journal, Pencil or Pen
- Backpack (for snacks, clothes, water bottle)
- Sleeping Bag & Pillow
- Sleeping Pad (optional)
- Warm Cloths (especially for sleeping… it will get chilly!)
- Waterproof Jacket
- Snacks: (Trail Mix, Granola Bars, Dehydrated Fruit)
- Water bottle
- We will provide all the meals but the kids will need to bring their own snack food.
There is no cellular phone reception in the the area we will be camping. However, we will be using a GPS device called the SPOT Gen3 to check in each day and to report our safety. You won’t be able to contact us, but you will be able to track our GPS coordinates each day on www.vintagecitychurch.com. It is our way of letting you know that everyone is safe and sound. In the event of an emergency, we can use SPOT to contact the local authorities and even search and rescue. To learn more watch this video…
Informational Meeting: May 17th | 4:30pm
We will have a 20 minute informational meeting on May 17th at 4:30pm when you drop your kids off for Student Leadership. In our meeting, we will cover more detailed information about the trip and answer any questions you might have.
