Miraculous Power

Miraculous Power

1 Corinthians 12v8-

The Spirit gives special faith to another, and to someone else he gives the power to heal the sick. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and to another the ability to prophesy.

He gives someone else the ability to know whether it is really the Spirit of God or another spirit that is speaking. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, and another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

He gives one person the power to perform miracles,

What is miraculous power?

A moment in the natural realm that is met by supernatural activity that transcends natural law. It is not something explainable by human means…it is heaven invading earth.

1. Jesus raising the dead

2. Where Jesus turns water into wine

3. Five loaves and fish

4. Jesus walking on the water

What Paul is revealing here is that it is not just Jesus that has this power… we have, “Power to work in the miraculous.”

Can I submit a simple phrase: Miracles are possible.

2 questions:

a. Why does the Holy Spirit release miracles?

b. How do we walk in the miraculous?

1. He releases them to accomplish ministry and to draw the lost to him.

God is after people!

2. Align your thinking with the truth of Scripture, and learn to ask Him, “what do you want to do?”

With the Holy Spirit, the impossible is possible!

and to another the ability to prophesy.

ability to prophesy – the root word means, “God-inspired speech.”

The root idea is to be able to hear/know/sense God’s voice and share or reveal it with others through speech.

It can happen at any time…

In Conversations with others

In Prayer times

In the Teaching of the Scriptures

In the Arts

Some simple truths that come from what Paul says:

1. God talks.

He has stuff to say to people.

He loves to encourage people. (that is the primary use for the prophetic)

2. He uses his sons and daughters, who know his voice, to share these things with others.

Question:

How can we learn to hear His prophetic voice?

There are some things we can do to be ready:

1. Spend Time with Him…practicing His presence in the Secret Place.

Psalm 91 – Dwelling in the Secret Place

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

will abide under the shadow of the Almighty (NKJV)

Developing the Secret Place

It is a proprietary choice

It is a habitual discipline

It is a place of aloneness.

It is in this place that we find intimacy with God. It is in this place that we hear His voice. Hearing His voice in the secret place teaches me how to release His voice in the public place.

2. Invest in learning what matters to Him and discover who He is historically in the Scriptures.

When we develop an understanding of His revelation in Scripture, we have a context for knowing how he speaks, what he says,

Psalm 25v14 – Living in the Fear of the Lord

Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear him. With them he shares the secrets of His covenant.

“Friendship” literally means “assembly” or counsel. i.e “having an audience with”

Friendship is from the Hebrew word – Cowd (Sode)

It is the idea of two friends sitting together, with chairs near each other, to share a deep and private conversation.

Look at the progression…this intimacy is reserved or set apart for the man or woman that would learn to fear Him.

Fear – Yare’- to fear, reverence, honor, respect

Honor is the giving of value or worth to something or someone.

Prov. 14:2

Those who follow the right path fear the Lord; those who take the wrong path despise Him.

Those who walk in the revelation of how He has said is RIGHT to live, Fear the Lord.

Psalm 119v105

Your word is like a lamp that guides my steps, a light that shows the path I should take.

The scriptures are where I learn what matters to His heart and living what they say reveals the Fear of the Lord.

Discovering His heart in the Scriptures shapes what I release into peoples lives.

Is there a discipline that governs the prophetic?

If I am to reveal Him correctly, then I must always ask a question as I share with others…How has He taught me His heart through how He has handled me?

His movements into our lives become the tutorial for how we move into the lives of others.
